Research Excellence
The International Banking Institute named after Anatoliy Sobchak conducts a wide range of research activities aimed at addressing current and future challenges in economics, finance, and management.
Our priority research areas include:
- the development of banking business and innovative financial technologies;
- corporate and sectoral economics and finance;
- economic security and transport economics;
- issues of green economy, green finance, and green banking;
- the transformation of the banking and financial system in the digital era.
Research at the International Banking Institute is carried out by academic departments and specialized research units and covers all levels of scientific inquiry – from fundamental research and applied studies to practical developments.
The Institute’s academic community includes distinguished scholars – recipients of state and industry awards, honorary titles, and prizes. The faculty comprises 17 Doctors of Science and 31 Candidates of Science, representing a strong team of highly qualified researchers.
The Institute actively participates in joint dissertation councils for the defense of Ph.D. and Doctoral theses:
- Council 99.0.125.02 (5.2.3 – Regional and Sectoral Economics: Economic Security; Transport and Logistics) – based at Emperor Alexander I St. Petersburg State Transport University (PGUPS University);
- Council 990.0.139.02 (5.2.4 – Finance) – based at the Research Institute of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation (FRI).
The International Banking Institute also offers postgraduate (Ph.D.) programs in the following academic disciplines:
- 5.2.3 – Regional and Sectoral Economics;
- 5.2.4 – Finance;
- 5.1.2 – Public Law (State Law) Sciences.
Every year, the Institute organizes and hosts a series of major academic and scientific events, including:
- the International Student Research Conference
- the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Smirnov Readings”
- the All-Russian Financial Science Forum
- the St. Petersburg Open Competition named after Professor V.N. Veniaminov.
Through these initiatives, the International Banking Institute continues to strengthen its position as a leading academic and research center, contributing to the advancement of financial science and higher education both in Russia and internationally.
